Tania Matias, LCSW

Therapist

I am a licensed social worker with experience providing therapy to a diverse population, including adults who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, and symptoms related to trauma. I obtained my master's degree in social work from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College and can provide psychotherapy in Spanish in addition to English.

As an Afro-Latina, I understand the need to destigmatize mental health in black and brown communities. I believe that being aware of the intersection between individual experience and cultural and racial systems allows for person-centered healing. My therapeutic approach cultivates a space that empowers clients' voices by encouraging collaboration and feedback throughout the therapeutic process. Using empathy and compassion allows clients to be themselves and feel understood as they process past experiences and reflect on challenges.

To facilitate this process, I use a trauma-informed model along with psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy to support clients in their journey.
